[Trask Land Company Employees and Champions of Freedom Scholarship Recipients enjoy the reception on the UNCW campus]

On Wednesday, October 16th, the University of North Carolina Wilmington hosted a reception in the Clock Tower Lounge for the three recipients of the Trask Land Company Champions of Freedom Scholarship. Chancellor Gary Miller, Raiford Trask, III, UNCW officials, Trask family members, and esteemed guests were all in attendance for this momentous occasion. The recipients, Sergeant Marianne Grimm, Staff Sergeant Harold Ryan Hoover, and Sergeant Matthew McLane were honored by Chancellor Miller and Mr. Trask.

“We are delighted to be able to honor these three inspiring and amazing individuals,” said Trask Land Company President and UNC Board of Governors Member, Raiford Trask, III. “I would like to personally thank David Hays, Col. Andy Anderson, and Joe Taylor for introducing us to this idea and their willingness to put others first. I would also like to thank our team at Trask Land Company who donated a percentage of their salaries towards the scholarship. We are very humbled to be able to lend a helping hand to those who have done so much for our country.”

The Trask Land Company Champions of Freedom Scholarship was established in May of 2013 to benefit active-duty U.S. Marines and members of their families. Preference will be given to Marines wounded in action or who serve in special operations.

Trask Land Company chose to establish the scholarship at UNCW because the university offers a number of educational programs tailored for members of the military and their families. In Onslow County, UNCW, Coastal Carolina Community College and Camp Lejeune collaboratively operate a model program specifically designed for active-duty Marines, veterans and their dependents.
